Diagonal Mar i el Front Marítim del Poblenou known as Diagonal Mar, is a neighborhood located north -east of Barcelona. This district was created in the late 60s and early 70s with the construction of the first homes where before were fields and farmhouses. After the ceremony the Universal Forum of Cultures, whihc was held in Barcelona in 2004 , the City´s Council , along with several property developers decided to turn into creating a brand new contemporanean neighborhood with a shopping center, a large park and many high quality buildings of great architectural interest. The city hall wished to improve the appearance and life of the neighborhood while it was winning its place in the city, as the new extended area of the district. In this way we can distinguish two different parts situated in Diagonal Mar which are: the former Diagonal Mar district, with many shopping streets between Pallars, Puigcerdà and Llull, where the houses are older. The new Diagonal Mar is situated between the Carrer Llull, the sea and the Forum venue.

Diagonal Mar i el Front Marítim del Poblenou is surrounded by the areas: El Maresme, Besòs and Poblenou, Avenida Diagonal, Rambla Prim, the streets: Pallars, Puigcerdà, Bac de Roda and the beaches of the Mar Bella and Nova Mar Bella.

The Diagonal Mar Park is one of the largest parks in Barcelona and has become the green space which bonds Av. Diagonal and the sea. The park , designed by Enric Miralles, covers an area of 14ha.

The Diagonal Mar district offers different services, such as the International Convention Centre of Barcelona, other residence buildings and the Diagonal Mar shopping center.

Diagonal Mar i el Front Marítim del Poblenou is very well connected as it is next to the B-10 motorway
and communicates with the city centre through the motorways that can be found from the Av. Diagonal. Additionally there are two Metro stations: L4 (Selva de Mar and El Maresme – Forum ), the tram pass through this area as well (Selva de Mar, Maresme Forum ). Last but not least, several buses circulating lines that connect the neighborhood with Barcelona and the rest of the metropolitan area (7 , 36 , 41 … )
